Classroom Expectations
& Behavioral Goals
The motto of our classroom is to treat others’ as you would like to be treated. I feel as if all children have to the right to learn in an environment that is conducive to learning. Each child should feel safe and important. I strongly believe that together, teachers and parents can help mold children into responsible, loving people. I feel that it is viable for teachers and parents to work together to help ensure each child’s success. I often tell my students that they have a chance to become anything they want to become. With this kind of encouragement and expectations, just imagine what these kids will accomplish.
Each child should feel safe and important. In my classroom, the students and I work together to come up with expectations that each person should follow. Although the students are excited and proud of their class rules, as with anything new and exciting, it starts to wear off. Each student in my class has a clip on a behavior chart. When a rule is broken, they are asked to move their clip. Usually this is all it takes and after talking with the student about his/her choices, the situation is handled. Every day in your child’s planner, I will give a smiley if your child had a good day or a note will be written if a situation occurred at school where a rule was broken. Please take time to check your child’s planner every night. This helps with communication between parent and teacher and keeps everyone on the same page. Often times, I will give your child a warning or automatically take five minutes off of their break time without having them move their clip. . As part of a new incentive program at Hayesville Elementary School, we have adopted the Yellow Jacket Fan Club as a way to reward good behavior and attendance for our students. At the beginning of every nine weeks, students start out as a member of the Fan Club. Students will remain in the fan club unless a behavior clip is moved more than 9 times per nine weeks. At the end of every nine weeks, all students remaining in the Fan Club will be rewarded with a party.
