Each class in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade attends the Media Center weekly. Young students begin the year with the story time and begin to learn the basics of library use. Students learn about care and use of books and also learn about the various kinds of books. They learn the arrangement and organization of materials throughout the center.
A primary goal of the Media Center is to promote reading for both leisure and educational needs.
Checkout Procedure and Rules:
Students may check out one book each week.
Students use the number assigned to them for cafeteria use as their library number. Therefore, even students who do not purchase the school lunch should memorize their number to use with the computer checkout system.
Checkouts are for a two-week period. Although overdue fees are not charged, students are encouraged and reminded to return books by the due date so others may use the books. Students reading longer books may recheck a title for an additional week.
Students are responsible for proper care of books. Damage fees and lost book fees are assessed depending on the amount of damage or the replacement cost of the book. Book fees must be paid before a student can again check out a book.
Any student who forgets to bring his/her book during the class library time will be unable to check out another title. The student will be given other books or materials to be used during the class.
