CHALLENGE

Students in the CHALLENGE Program will find the program challenging and stimulating helping them to reach their academic potential. Students are encouraged to participate with enthusiasm and demonstrate a desire for learning. The program is designed for second, third, and fourth grade students who excel in the areas of student achievement and performance.

The CHALLENGE Program will develop creativity, thinking skills, problem solving, autonomous learning, discovery, leadership, and research. Our program consists of a series of interdisciplinary units. These units examine a central theme, issue, or problem through the integrated study of math, science, social studies, and language arts. Some of the programs we will be using are as follows: Primary Thinking Skills, Figure It Out, Logic Problems, Analogies, and Tangrams. It is hoped that each student's unique abilities will be developed and strengthened. Please encourage your child to participate and always do their best. While expectations are high, enjoyment for learning is also a goal. Homework is generally not assigned; however, occasionally studying a particular topic for a unit may be required.

The CHALLENGE Program offers a variety of experiences and explorations that I hope your child will enjoy. The classes will be meeting on Mondays and Fridays during regularly scheduled exploratories. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at lvaughn@hayesvillees.org or call me and leave a message at 389-8586. I will be checking messages on Mondays and Fridays and will try my best to respond quickly. I look forward to a productive and exciting year working with your child to make this a challenging, rewarding and enjoyable part of your child's education.
