Wings is a program used by HES to help children reach their full potential. The goal of the Wings Program is to enable children to be ready to learn when entering First Grade. Wings teaches thinking skills, memory, comprehension, creative thinking, problem solving, and decision making. Wings is developmentally sequenced to allow children to work on skills that are appropriate to their current ability level. New skills are presented in increasing levels of difficulty so that learning occurs in the appropriate sequence. Students will improve their language and cognitive skills through the introduction of reasoning skills, visual organization, discrimination skills, and basic school skills. This program requires the child to attend a session once a week that is conducted by the Title I teacher. The session is conducted upstairs in the Kindergarten Loft. All children are screened for the Wings Program upon entering Kindergarten. Letters are sent home to parents notifying them that their child is participating. Children participating in the program have shown marked cognitive benefits.
