Title I Program at Hayesville Elementary School

Hayesville Elementary School is a Title I school consisting of Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grade. The Title I program aims to bridge the gap between low income students and the overall student population at the school. According to the U.S. Department of Education, the purpose of Title 1 funding, “is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach, at minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments” (U.S. Department of Education, 2004).

The United States Department of Education provides Title I funding, in the form of supplemental funding, to qualifying local school districts to meet the needs of both at-risk and low-income students. Title I funds are used at Hayesville Elementary School to improve curriculum, instruction, parent involvement and academic opportunities for our students. Title I funds are utilized to implement programs and instructional initiatives to improve student achievement in reading and in math.

Annual Parent Night/Title I Meeting

Programs and policies are discussed at annual Parent Night/Title I meetings. Parents are invited to review and provide feedback about programs at the school.

Parent Involvement

Clay County Schools and Hayesville Elementary Parent Involvement Policies are posted on the district and school websites, in the lobby of the elementary school and in the elementary Communities for Students room. Copies are available in the elementary school office.

School Report Card

The Hayesville Elementary School Report Card provides information about student achievement, class size, school safety, school technology, and teacher quality at the school, district and state levels. The report card is available at https://ncreportcards.ondemand.sas.com/ . A link to the report card is also available on the school’s website. Additionally, you may request a paper copy from the elementary school office.

Learning Compact

As part of the Parent Involvement Policy, a Learning Compact is presented yearly, at annual conferences, for signatures of the principal, teachers, parents and students. Stakeholder feedback in the development and implementation of the compact, plans, policies and programs at Hayesville Elementary School is welcome.

Parents’ Right to Know

Districts must notify the parents of students attending Title I schools that they may request and the district must provide (in a timely manner) information regarding the professional qualifications of students’ classroom teachers including, at a minimum, the following:

1. Whether the teacher has met North Carolina qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade

levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.

2. Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency license or waiver through which the

state qualifications or licensing criteria have been waived.

3. The bachelor's degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree

held by the teacher, and the field or discipline of the certification or degree.

4. Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
